Keep Your Clothesline Clothes Soft

When it comes to clothes-lining, there is nothing worse than putting on a t-shirt as stiff as cardboard, or a pair of jeans that’s so hard they can stand up on their own.  This is actually one of the biggest inconveniences of line drying your clothes, however it can be easily fixed.  Vinegar is a product that can be used in a variety of ways to green cleaning enthusiasts like myself.  It also serves as a great fabric softener in your laundry room.

Add 1/2 cup of vinegar to your laundry at the beginning of your rinse cycle

or

Add 1/2 cup of vinegar to your HE washers fabric softener dispenser

The vinegar removes all the alkaline left behind from laundry detergent, which is what makes the clothes hard while drying.  It also helps to hang the clothes out of direct sunlight since over exposure to sun can also cause hardness.

Hopefully this will help you make your green lifestyle a little more comfortable.  Please feel free to share you green cleaning and green laundry tips with us!

The Green Way To Remove Gum From Hardwood Floors

The problem with gum is that is sticks to everything from clothing to hair and can be a real pain to remove without damaging its sticky partner.   The floor seems to be one of the places it can be found the most and with households increasingly being upgraded to hardwood flooring, we decided to share our little tip for removing gum from your hardwood floors…the green way.

Its actually really simple.  All you have to do is get a piece of ice or an ice pack and rub it on the affected area for  a few minutes.  The ice allows the gum to harden and loosen from the flooring.  You can then use the peel of an orange or lemon to remove any excess residue left behind.  We tried this technique at a friends house and it definitely worked as shown in our image.

There you have it, you saved your floor, some cash, and your indoor air quality by not using any chemicals!  Please share any other green tips with us that you may have!
